Dominion’s energy plan threatens Virginia families with higher bills and increased pollution
Continued gas investments compromise clean energy transition and burden households

Charlottesville, VA – Dominion Energy’s 2024 Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) poses serious threats to Virginia families through significantly increased energy bills, higher carbon pollution and a continued reliance on costly gas-burning facilities.

“Dominion’s latest energy plan blatantly disregards the financial well-being and health of Virginia families,” said Kate Asquith, Clean Virginia’s Deputy Director of Energy and Operations. “By continuing to invest in gas-burning facilities, Dominion is not just raising bills—it’s locking Virginians into a future of higher costs and greater pollution. This is unacceptable at a time when we need to be transitioning to clean, affordable energy.”

Dominion’s IRP outlines plans that could push average residential energy bills to between $214 and $315 per month by 2039, placing an enormous financial burden on families already struggling with rising living costs. Instead of prioritizing affordable clean energy solutions, Dominion is doubling down on methane gas projects that will drive up electricity prices and perpetuate reliance on one of the most expensive methods of energy generation available.

All four proposed plans within the IRP include a substantial increase in carbon emissions, directly impacting the health of Virginia families. The continued expansion of gas infrastructure threatens to worsen air quality and contribute to climate change, disproportionately affecting low-income communities that already bear the brunt of pollution.

Clean Virginia calls on the State Corporation Commission and state lawmakers to reject this damaging IRP and ensure that energy policies center the needs of Virginia families.

“Virginians deserve a utility that prioritizes affordable, clean and reliable energy solutions, rather than one that continues to enrich itself at the expense of the families it serves,” added Asquith.
