Why it’s needed: Virginia is home to the largest data center market in the world and consequently leads the nation in both current and future data center energy demand. If the rapid growth of this industry continues to go unchecked, residential energy costs will increase by $444 per year by 2040. It’s time to prevent Virginians’ from footing the bill for Big Tech’s digital empire. Data centers are built by some of the richest companies in the world. They need to pay their fair share.
Why it’s needed: Virginians deserve the assurance that their representatives are not exploiting campaign funds for personal expenses like luxury vacations, country club dues or lavish water skiing videos, yet Virginia is only one of two states without a ban on the personal use of campaign funds. It’s time to align Virginia with national standards and restore public trust in elected officials.
